Last week, our kitesurfing club set off for a long weekend on the beautiful Danish island of Læsø. We left on Wednesday and didn’t return until Sunday – four full days of wind, waves, and good company.
The weekend was brilliantly organised by Thomas, who generously welcomed us into his family’s holiday house. Without his hospitality, the trip wouldn’t have been nearly as special.
We were lucky with the weather – plenty of wind to keep our kites in the air, though we did get our fair share of rain as well. But that didn’t dampen our spirits. To comfort us after a wet session, Thomas prepared a classic Danish dish: flæskesteg – roast pork with crispy crackling. Absolutely delicious.
And of course, there were beers and wine, always in moderation – despite what the Jeroboam of Italian red wine might suggest!
We kited every single day, on three different spots across the island. The weather on Læsø is famously changeable; you really feel like you’re out in the middle of the sea. That only adds to the sense of escape and the joy of taking a few days off.
All in all, it was a fantastic weekend – sporty, friendly, and unforgettable. Already looking forward to the next one.
